Running & Ultra Coaching
Stop Breaking Down. Build a Body That Can Handle the Engine.
Traditional running plans are brilliant at building your engine. They excel at optimising aerobic efficiency, improving VO2 max, and mapping out mileage.
But for many runners, fitness isn't the problem. The problem is that their body breaks down before their engine can reach its full potential.
If you are caught in the frustrating cycle of getting fit, getting injured, resting, and breaking down all over again, you don't just need another training schedule. You need a coach who bridges both worlds: an expert who knows how to build a powerful engine while simultaneously strengthening your body to absorb the miles.
Coach Chris Spurling
"I didn’t get here through elite running genetics.
At 19, my back would lock up after running a single mile. If you’d told me then I’d go on to represent Great Britain, finish thirteen 100-mile-plus races, and win a 350km ultra, I’d have been very surprised.
What changed wasn’t talent—it was addressing my own muscle imbalances, joint dysfunctions, and loading strategies. Over 25 years as a physiotherapist, I’ve learned to fix structural breakdowns and build a body that can handle high training loads without falling apart.
If you’re tired of generic advice and endless injury cycles, let’s fix the root cause and build real resilience.”

Why Work With Chris?
25+ Years as a Specialist Physiotherapist
Expert in running injuries, pelvic alignment, and running load management.
Former GB Backyard Ultra Runner
Represented Great Britain twice in Backyard Ultras, covering over 200 miles in a single event, winner of the King Alfred Way 350km ultra, and 13 × 100-mile plus finishes to date.
Sub-3 Marathoner
Completed sub-3 marathons in his 20s, 30s and 40s.
Rebuilt from Broken
A footballer and triple jumper in a former life, Chris was adapted for short, explosive bursts—but his back used to lock up after just one mile of continuous running. By systematically identifying and correcting his own muscle imbalances and joint dysfunctions, he eliminated the problem.
The result? Retiring from football at 26, running his first marathon a few months later, and building 20+ years of high-mileage endurance.Accredited UESCA Running Coach
Ensuring your plans are backed by modern data-driven load management and structured periodisation.
Is This You?
Chris works with goal-driven endurance runners stepping up to marathons, ultras, or multi-day distances who refuse to be sidelined by injury.
This coaching is designed specifically for you if you want to:
Break the loop: End the frustrating "boom-and-bust" cycle of chronic Achilles, knee, hip or back niggles.
Build true resilience: Increase your weekly mileage without constantly waiting for the next injury to strike.
Get an elite edge: Target a major endurance milestone with a 25-year running physio and former GB ultra-runner managing your training load.
How It Works
Every runner starts with an initial diagnostic assessment and custom 4-week roadmap. From there, you can transition into monthly support depending on whether you need clinical physiotherapy or structured coaching.
STEP 1: The Initial Assessment
£195 (One-off — Choose In-Person or 100% Online)
A complete diagnostic reset to pinpoint why your body breaks down and build your custom 4-week path forward. Both formats start with a Deep Intake Audit of your injury history, training logs, goals, and capacity limits.
Choose your format:
Option A: Audit + In-Person 90-Minute Clinic Session
Deep Intake Audit: Completed online prior to your visit so Chris can review your history.
90-Min Intensive Appointment: In-clinic physical movement & strength-endurance audit, treadmill gait analysis, and 1-on-1 strategy session completed back-to-back.
PLUS:
🎯 Custom 4-Week Rebuild Roadmap
Fully integrated running schedule, targeted strength/rehab protocol, and gait-retraining drills built specifically for your body.
Option B: 100% Online Assessment
Deep Intake Audit: Complete history, training log, and goals review.
Biomechanical Self-Audit: Guided online testing for joint range, muscle flexibility and muscular strength-endurance.
Video Gait Analysis: Upload running footage using our simple recording guide.
30-Min Strategy Call: Direct 1-on-1 video consultation with Chris once all diagnostic data and gait footage are compiled.
PLUS:
🎯 Custom 4-Week Rebuild Roadmap
Fully integrated running schedule, targeted strength/rehab protocol, and gait-retraining drills built specifically for your body.
STEP 2: Optional Monthly Coaching
After completing your initial 4-week roadmap, choose the level of ongoing support that fits your goals:
Option 1: Clinical Rebuild Coaching
£295 / month — UK runners only due to clinical insurance restrictions.
Strictly capped at 6 runners.
For runners with active injuries, chronic breakdown cycles, or high-risk training blocks requiring direct physiotherapist management.
Physiotherapy & Coaching Combined: Active clinical diagnosis, hands-on self-treatment techniques, and physical rehab integrated directly into your training plan.
Dynamic Programming: Running schedules updated in real time based on pain and tissue response.
Direct Clinical Support: Mon–Fri WhatsApp voice/text access to Chris for acute niggle management and immediate plan adjustments.
1-on-1 Calls & Re-Checks: Monthly video strategy call plus quarterly gait re-evaluations.
Option 2: Performance & Durability Coaching (Coaching Only)
£125 / month — Available globally.
For runners dealing with recurring niggles, chronic breakdown cycles, or fragile bodies who want expert run programming and physio-informed load management to build mileage safely.
Pure Coaching Scope (No Clinical Treatment): Delivered strictly as a running coach. Focuses on training load, running plans, and strength guardrails (does not include medical diagnosis, physical rehab, or hands-on clinical care).
Physio-Informed Load Management: Progressive run schedules designed using 25+ years of clinical insight to keep training volume within your body's tolerance limits.
Durability Protocols: Integrated strength, joint protection, and gait maintenance drills built into your weekly training.
Weekly Check-Ins: Written analysis of your training logs and workload tweaks to catch red flags before they turn into injuries.
Is This Right for You?
This is built specifically for you if:
You want to stop breaking down: You are ready to end the cycle of niggles, time off, and starting from scratch.
You have big goals: You are stepping up to a marathon, ultra, or multi-day event and need a chassis that can handle the volume.
You value clinical authority: You want a 25-year physio and GB ultra runner managing your training load- not an AI app or a generic PDF template.
You are ready to commit: You are prepared to follow a structured, phased plan and actually execute the strength and rehab work.
It is probably not a good fit if:
You refuse to adjust your volume: You aren't willing to temporarily scale back intensity to allow your tissues to adapt.
You want a quick-fix "magic tape" solution: You are looking for a temporary fix rather than addressing the root causes of your mechanics and tissue loading.
You ignore rest days: You believe more is always better and struggle to follow structured de-load phases.
